James Garner Oral History
During the 1930s, James Garner worked as a truck driver at Garner State Park, and on July 10, 2003, he talked about his experiences with a TPWD interviewer. He tells of driving to Uvalde every day to pick up fresh vegetables, meat, and milk, saving ice to retrieve last, and then making a mad dash back to the camp where there was no refrigeration. Garner also explains depositing a mail sack from the CCC camp to Uvalde each day and returning with letters for the awaiting enrollees.
