The Civilian Conservation Corps

Texas saw the federal CCC program as a great opportunity to undertake major projects like developing its fledgling state park system. Architects, craftspeople, and planners eventually designed more than 50 CCC parks around the state. The program gave some 50,000 enrollees in Texas employment, new skills, and a home during the Great Depression. Today, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department operates 28 of these parks for all to enjoy.
