Plane, Made of Metal and Wood, 1933-1942
CCC enrollees often used hand tools such as this simple block plane to smooth wood surfaces and generally shape wood for joinery. This tool bears a CCC stamp above the NPS mark that had been burned into the wood. The transfer of equipment and tools was common among the various agencies that supported the CCC. These agencies included the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Army, the last of which supplied much of the materials used in camp life.
