Morris Sheppard Dam, Possum Kingdom State Park, 1997

The New Deal saw the creation of the Morris Sheppard Dam, constructed from 1936-1941. Possum Kingdom reservoir was the result, and planners hoped to create a new park from 6,969 acres of land. Unfortunately, the reservoir filled more rapidly than expected, reducing the size of the park and curtailing much of the development planned for the site.
