Stone Cabin, Palo Duro Canyon State Park, c. 1935

The design of the cabins minimized the structure's appearance amidst the surrounding landscape, and thus from a distance this once looked much like a pile of rocks, an impression reinforced by the seeming tumble of rocks at the base of the building and a look of eroding walls. The wooden vigas supporting the roof structure are just above the window lintels, suggesting that the interior is small and intimate.
