Gardner Hill Oral History, Part 3
Gardner Hill attended the 70th anniversary celebration of the CCC at Bastrop State Park where a TPWD interviewer talked with him on March 30, 2003. In this part of the interview, Hill answers questions about his stone work and explains how he shaped the stone with a chipping hammer and helped to build the "clubhouse" arch at Lake Brownwood State Park. Likewise, he worked to construct the building’s dance terrace where he and a buddy, with an orange soda and a bag of peanuts in hand, spent Saturday nights watching Brownwood couples dance to orchestra music on the terrace as the moon shone on the lake.
