CCC Bridge, Meridian State Park, c. 2005

This CCC bridge is part of the perimeter park road that follows the banks of Lake Bosque. An early structure by the CCC in Texas, the bridge spans a natural drainage entering the lake. For walls, bridges, culverts, and buildings—the CCC's material of choice, when possible, was stone. The abutments of this bridge are made of local stone plentifully available among the stone outcroppings along the northern edge of the Balcones Escarpment.
