Caliche Crete Block Grand Staircase, Lake Corpus Christi State Park, 2006
The men of Company 886 landscaped the grounds around the refectory by dividing the area with a planned pattern of caliche block walkways extending to points of interest. On the lakeside, walkways first led to a grand staircase at the overlook located at the peninsula tip, extended west to the bluff side pump house, and then descended to the boat house on the south. Enrollees built the grand staircase of caliche blocks, their many sizes and patterns evident here where time and weather have eroded some of the caliche.
