Water System Intake, Huntsville State Park, 2008
This intake shaft drew lake water from Lake Raven, piping it to a pump house for treatment and eventually distribution throughout the park. The distinctively formed cylindrical concrete wall was cast to be porous—not watertight, thus permitting the inflow of water while also serving as a filter to keep out debris. The structure is barely noticeable at normal lake level, but was exposed at the time of this photo since the water was lowered for lakeside maintenance.
