Aransas Bay Campsite, Goose Island State Park, c. 2000
Goose Island proper is distinctly different from Lamar Peninsula, which has groves of trees and open grasslands. The island located between St. Charles and Aransas Bays is largely barren, the ground being a combination of sand and oyster shells. The seaward side is protected by a concrete bulkhead to control erosion and offer some protection from storm surge. Concrete picnic shelters and tent camping areas are along the Aransas Bay side, and there is a 1,600-foot lighted fishing pier.
