A number of firms manufactured and marketed so-called novelties, like this pillow top, to CCC enrollees who could choose to spend part of their paychecks to send specialty items home to friends and family. A verse whose first lines begin with a letter that spells out the word m-o-t-h-e-r may appear sentimental to today's viewers but may have been consoling during the 1930s.
